Where does my money go?
Your money goes exactly where you want it to go. The CFC is a designation campaign. Just over 92% of our donations last year went to charitable charities designated by the donor. That means the money went to the charities that you, the donors, picked.

Where did that other 2.6% go you ask? Sometimes donors forget to designate and sometimes they just donate and let someone else decide. Unlike other campaigns your undesignated money does not get passed out equally among all the remaining charities. The undesignated portion is apportioned out in exactly the same proportion that the designated monies were donated. For example, if the XYZ charity received 3% of all the designated monies in the Southeast Michigan Area campaign then they will receive 3% of the undesignated monies also. If XYZ charity received nothing from the designated monies then they will receive none of the undesignated funds.

And don't forget, the CFC works because campaign administrative costs are minimized

Last year, administrative costs amounted to 7.6 percent of total donations, which is well below the nonprofit sector standard. The Southeastern Michigan Area Combined Federal Campaign takes great pride in its efforts to maintain costs. The PCFO and the LFCC work diligently to run an annual campaign that allows the generous Federal community of donors the opportunity to conveniently offer much-needed support to the charities of their choice.
